Notes
After the hot and heavy club settings P2’s final gig for this bout of touring has them return to the more formal setting of the Inter-Media Arts Center. Perhaps the biggest difference between this gig and the previous evening is a greater degree of space and light from the team. A less frantic House bubbles rather than hurtles along tonight though Heavy ConstruKction picks up the pace. There’s a great moment when the music suddenly stops and Adrian rings a bell-like cymbal several times as though he were the time-keeper in a boxing ring, as Fripp and Gunn set about trading blows.
After the eclectic respites of various Vector and Sector drifts and shifts, Sus_tayn_Z resumes with its restless questing; this one may just be the keeper with a sublime, fiery coda containing Fripp at his spacey best. Astonishing stuff.
House II goes all slo-mo giving the solos a slightly surreal edge leading into the industrial hammering of Space ConstruKction which is akin to getting a guided tour to a bizarre factory making impossible angular things of unfathomable design from another world entirely. Fripp’s blistering solo at around the three minute mark just takes the top of your head off! If you’re looking for something equally robust then try the splintering shards of shredding which Gunn fires off during a particularly devastating X_Chanyn_Jiz.
Even had he never played another note in a Crimson context, Gunn would be rightly regarded as a hero for coming up with the gorgeous solo which lifts Thrush into classic Crim territory. Music from the heart and soul for sure.
